In the picnic area of the Ford Amphitheatre from 4pm to 11pm each day of the ANGEL CITY JAZZ FESTIVAL 2009, visual artists Fumiko Amano, Favianna Rodriguez and Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca will be painting live, directly inspired by the music being performed during the festival and by special DJ sets by with DJ mix by Dubs One, Efechto, J Mar, Orion One; Chikaramanga, Kiwamu Omae, and YOTAH of Shibuya Club DJs.  All live paintings will be available for sale at affordable prices ranging from $20 to $100: proceeds will benefit the Angel City Jazz Festival.


BIO: Fumiko Amano:
Fumiko Amano was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan.  She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.  Known as an artist and publisher of the Atelier Zero event list, she is an active member of the LA art scene. Her atmospheric paintings, created as visualizations of sound/dream/organic forms, have been exhibited at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Lawrence Asher Gallery, LACMA Rental and Sales Gallery, Gallery Revisited, Salon Oblique, Another Year in LA, MOCA, Claremont Museum of Art and Murnau Art Gallery in Seville, Spain.  Fumiko's website is: http://www.fumikoamano.com/ 

BIO: Favianna Rodriguez:
Favianna Rodriguez is an artist-entrepreneur who has helped foster resurgence in political arts both locally and internationally. Named by UTNE Magazine as one of the countries leading visionary artists,” Rodriguez is renown for her vibrant posters dealing with social issues such as war, immigration, globalization, and social movements, as well as for her leadership in establishing innovative institutions that promote education and engage new audiences in the arts. In 2001, Rodriguez co-founded the EastSide Arts Alliance (ESAA) and Visual Element in Oakland, California, to train young  artists in the tradition of muralism. In 2003, she co-established the Taller Tupac Amaru print studio to promote the practice of screenprinting. Additionally, Rodriguez is co-founder and president of Tumis Inc., a bilingual design studio. As president of Tumis, Rodriguez travels extensively to consult with organizations interested in using arts and visual communications and new technologies to promote community building and social change.

BIO: Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca: 
Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca is a visual artist and writer.  Gustavo created the acclaimed books Interstellar Transmissions, The Hidden Infinities and The Multiple Entrance.  His artwork is exhibited in art galleries and museums around the world, including graffiti/street art gallery Crewest Gallery in downtown Los Angeles, California; and Parco Museum and the Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, both in Tokyo, Japan.  His artwork is published in various art books, including Yo! What Happened to Peace?  His writing is published in various books and literary anthologies.  Gustavo creates artwork for record covers and for live concert projections for Detroit Techno record labels Los Hermanos and Jeff Mills’ Axis Records; Francois K’s Deep Space dub record label; and others.  Gustavo also collaborates visually with the John and Alice Coltrane Foundation: Beams T, the Japanese street fashion brand, has recently released T-shirts featuring Gustavo's Coltrane-inspired artworks.

BIO: Shibuya Club DJs
Shibuya Club DJs, the Los Angeles based DJ crew, is composed of three Japanese DJs: Chikaramanga (of Giant Panda / Tres Records), Kiwamu Omae, and YOTAH.  They perform at many parties and art shows in the Los Angeles area with selections of Soul, Funk, Jazz, Disco, Hip Hop, Japanese, etc.  Their monthly event, "Shibuya," takes place at Far Bar in Little Tokyo on the first Tuesday of every month.
