Jesse Sharps, a key player in Horace Tapscott's Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, presents "The Gathering," an excellent slice of Leimert Park jazz featuring many of the neighborhood's finest players. The Gathering is a multi-racial, multi-generational ensemble representing over 40 years of L.A. jazz history. The Gathering will be playing music by the great Horace Tapscott, as well as Sharps’ own compositions.

Sharps, now in his 50s and a formidable composer/bandleader in his own right, is the driving force behind The Gathering, a meeting of minds between "The Roots and Branches of LA Jazz." The "roots" include many who began their distinguished careers in the Ark: including singer Dwight Trible.

The Gathering is celebrating the release of their new CD The Roots and Branches of LA Jazz, recorded at CalArts in October 2005.
